Founded in 1997 as one of the league’s original teams, the Comets quickly established themselves as a dynasty, winning the WNBA’s first four consecutive championships from 1997 to 2000. Led by legendary players such as Sheryl Swoopes, Cynthia Cooper, and Tina Thompson, the team became synonymous with excellence, competitiveness, and trailblazing achievement in women’s sports.
The Comets were known not only for their on-court dominance but also for helping elevate the visibility and credibility of the WNBA during its formative years. Comets will return to Houston in May 2027.
